THOMASVILLE, N.C. — The Florence RedWolves have been superb at home, but as coach Wes Davis pointed out after Saturday’s 12-3 loss to Thomasville, they still have to learn how to prepare better for road games.
“Offensively, we were not ready for about the first six innings,” Davis said. “By the time we made some adjustments, it was too little, too late.”
Thomasville scored seven runs off RedWolves starter Bobby Doran, including six in the fifth inning. Only three of those runs were earned, however, as Florence committed three errors in the inning and four for the game.
The RedWolves weren’t able to scratch across against Thomasville starter Michael Park, who struck out six in six innings.
Florence finally broke through for three runs in the ninth. Herman Petzold went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the RedWolves, who fell to 5-2.
Florence will host Fayetteville today at 6 p.m.
