Coastal Carolina relief pitcher Pete Andrelczyk and catcher Dock Doyle were both selected in the fifth round of the First Year Players Amateur draft. Andrelczyk was selected by the Marlins, and a few picks later, Doyle was taken by the Mets.

Andrelczyk, a First Team All-Big South selection as a relief pitcher, has nine saves in 29 appearances as Coastal’s closer this season. He is 6-1 with a 3.40 earned-run average and 56 strikeouts in 45 innings. The Lancaster, PA native struck out six of the last eight hitters to pick up a win in the 13-10 victory over Alabama May 31. In the Big South, he is 3-1 with a 1.05 ERA in 11 appearances. He earned two saves in the Big South Tournament and had two saves in one day Feb. 24 in wins over Maryland and Virginia Tech. Andrelczyk has allowed only eight extra-base hits and walked only one in Big South action.

Andrelczyk becomes the highest Chanticleer picked in the draft since Mike Costanzo went in the second round to the Philadelphia Phillies in 2005.

Doyle, the 2008 Big South Player of the Year, is hitting .366 with 22 doubles, two triples, 16 home runs and 72 RBI for the Chanticleers. The Conway native is a finalist for the Johnny Bench Award and was on the All-Conway Regional and All-Big South Tournament Teams. Doyle was 5-for-14 with six runs scored, two doubles and seven RBI in the regional and had two hits and two RBI in the 24-11 win over East Carolina June 1. Doyle is a two-time Big South Player of the Week and was ranked the third-best catcher in the country by Rivals.com. On the year, Doyle has committed just three passed balls, has thrown out 12 runners trying to steal and picked off seven more on base. In the Big South, he hit .342 with seven home runs.

CCU practices at the USA Baseball complex in Cary, NC at 2:45 on Friday. The opener of the Super Regional against North Carolina is Saturday at Noon.
