FLORENCE — Florence Post 1 coach Derick Urquhart said his team’s biggest problem this season was scoring on opponents in the early innings.
That was not a problem on Tuesday. Post 1 scored five times in the first inning en route to a 9-3 win over Cheraw at Legion Field.
Jordan Lyles was the beneficiary of the run support, going five innings to earn the win. The Hartsville product allowed no earned runs on three hits, fanning four batters and walking two.
“We jumped on them early, and that was good because we didn’t jump on them late,” Urquhart said. “All through the preseason, we were playing from behind.
So it was good to give Jordan some run support.”
Justin Green picked up four of Florence’s 13 hits and drove in two runs. Former Wilson standouts John Taylor and Keith Branco combined for three hits and three runs scored.
