Dock Doyle has been Coastal's best hitter this year. The Conway native may go down as the best catcher in the country. Tuesday Doyle was named as one of the three finalists for the Johnny Bench Award, given to the nation's top catcher.
Doyle will join Florida State’s Buster Posey and Stanford’s Jason Castro in Wichita on June 27, 2008. Johnny Bench will present the award to the recipient. The finalists were voted on by Division I baseball coaches.

Doyle, the Big South Player of the Year and an All-Big South First Team member, has a .366 batting average with 62 runs scored, 22 doubles, two triples, 16 home runs and 72 RBI. Doyle also was named to the Big South All-Tournament Team, the All-Conway Regional Team and was named a Second Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball.
The two-time Big South Player of the Week leads the Big South in RBI and was ranked as the third-best catcher in the nation this season by Rivals.com. He hit .385 with two doubles and seven RBI in the three Conway Regional games. He has committed just three passed balls on the year, has thrown out 12 runners trying to steal and picked off seven more on the campaign. Doyle has two multi-home run games in wins over Albany and Charleston Southern and had 10 RBI in the three-game series against Charleston Southern. In Big South games, Doyle hit .342 with seven home runs.
