FLORENCE — The Florence RedWolves used the long ball to pull out a win Saturday.
Barrett Kleinknecht and Cody Stinger each blasted fourth-inning homers to lead Florence to an 8-3 win over Wilmington at Legion Field.
“Our guys did a good job of adjusting at the plate and fought back (against the Sharks),” first-year Florence coach Wes Davis said. “We were really pleased by that.”
Trailing 3-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth, Kleinknecht led off the frame with a solo home run.
After Jared Barkdoll and Myckie Lugbauer each drew walks, Cody Stinger launched a three-run bomb to left field that gave the RedWolves a 5-3 lead they never lost.
Barkdoll and Lugbauer each finished with two hits to lead Florence (2-1). Dillon native Keon Graves and Herman Petzold also had a pair of hits.
“We were fortunate to put a couple of balls deep,” Davis said of the fourth-inning homers. “The long balls got the crowd excited, and we were able to take the lead at that point.”
Florence’s power output made a winner of Bobby Doran (1-0). The Texas native allowed two earned runs in five innings to get his first win of the season.
