Gorkys goes hitless in Futures Game

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Pelican Gorkys Hernandez had been stuggling mightily at the plate. His average, once in the .330s is now below .280. Unfortunately, a trip to the Bronx did not cure what ails him. Hernandez went 0-4 with two strikeouts as the World team beat the USA Team 3-0 in the MLB Futures game at Yankee Stadium.

Former Pelican Elvis Andrus reached on a fielder's choice in the first inning and later scored.

As for the Pelicans, persistent rain showers forced the postponement of game two of their series against the Frederick Keys on Sunday night at Harry Grove Stadium. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader scheduled for Monday night at 6 PM. RHP Chris Vines will start game one on Monday for the Pelicans against RHP Jake Renshaw for Frederick. RHP Chris Vines will start game two for the Pelicans against a yet to be determined starter for Frederick. The postponement is the third in the last four days for Myrtle Beach, after their scheduled game on Thursday night with Salem was washed away at BB&T Coastal Field and a doubleheader the following evening was shortened due to rain to a single contest.
