Hunter education course
Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge will offer two hunter education course sessions.
The course will be taught on Aug. 16 and Sept. 27 at the refuge office, which is located at 23734 U.S. Highway 1, three miles north of McBee.
The course will begin at 8 a.m. and last until 5 p.m. Please call Patricia McCoy at (843) 335-8350 for more information or register for one of the classes.
Hunter education is not just for kids and not just for hunters. The program is for anyone who enjoys the outdoors and has an interest in conservation, and is also an excellent refresher for veteran hunters.
Bobby Clarke Memorial Tournament
The seventh annual Bobby Clarke Memorial Reel Kids, Reel Fun fishing tournament will be held Aug. 2 at Georgetown Landing.
This tournament was established in 2002 by the Florence Blue Water Fishing Club to help introduce children to salt water fishing along our beautiful South Carolina coast.
Clarke, one of the club’s founding members, was drowned in a boating accident off the coast of South Carolina. The club changed the name of the tournament to honor him.
This tournament continues to be free for all participants with T-shirts, prizes, recognition and a free picnic for all children and adults later that evening at Georgetown Landing.
The Blue Water Fishing Club is again emphasizing safe boating with special recognition going to all adults who wear personal floatation devices whenever their boats are underway during the tournament.
For additional information, please call Jim Wood at (800) 922-0656 or The Georgetown Landing at (843) 546-1776.
