WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Florence Redwolves used a six-run third inning to defeat Wilmington 8-3 on Tuesday.
It was the RedWolves second straight win and third in their last four games.
Blake Walker led Florence (3-3, second half, 23-10 overall) with four hits, including an RBI single in the third inning. Florence had six straight singles in the inning.
“We had good swings on the ball and a great approach to the plate,” Florence coach Wes Davis said.
Center fielder Jamie Walczk added three hits and scored two runs, while Andrew Guerra and Barrett Kleinknecht each had two hits.
The RedWolves pounded out 14 hits in the victory.
The offense was more than enough for Florence starter Kent Altman, who improved to 4-0. The Coastal Carolina standout pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out five.
“That might have been Kent’s best outing,” Davis said. “We know he will compete every time we give him the ball and and that’s all you can ask.”
Michael Rudman (2-1) took the loss for the Sharks. He last just 2 1/3 innings, giving up six runs on seven hits.
