Turning 50 doesn't have a lot of perks. But for some golfers, it can signal a rebirth of their career. When they reach the half-century mark, they can enter senior events, and over 2800 golfers across the country are looking to qualify for about 150 spots in this month's Senior U.S. Open.

Myrtle Beach native Glen Davis turned 50 just a few months ago. He thinks that gives him an advantage - for the first time in a long time, he's one of the young guns. Davis is a golf teacher at River Oaks golf club, and has taught the game for over 30 years. But he's spent the last 4 years focusing on his game as well. That's why he feels like he has a chance at making it on Monday, at the regional qualifying in Bluffton. He has to finish in the top 6 out of about 80 golfers to reach the final stage. Davis knows what that's like - in 26 tries at qualifying for the regular U.S. Open, he made the final stage four times. But he never advanced to the actual tournament.

There are six other local golfers also looking to qualify on Monday - Ivan Brock (Hartsville), Alan Chasteen (Surfside Beach), Joe Hendrick (Chesterfield), Bill Smunk (Kingstree), Denny Adkins (North Myrtle Beach and Bob Swezey (Myrtle Beach).

The Senior U.S. Open starts July 31st at Broadmoor Country Club in Colorado Springs, CO.
