WILSON, N.C. — Wilson’s Tim Adelman pitched eight shutout innings as the Tobs handed the Florence RedWolves a 7-0 defeat on Wednesday.
Cody Hawn led the Tobs (2-0 second half, 14-15 overall) with two hits and two RBI, while Matt Sanders added two hits.
After winning the South Division first-half crown, the RedWolves have dropped two straight to begin the second half.
It’s only the second time this season Florence has lost two straight games.
“We struggled through a couple of tough nights,” Florence coach Wes Davis said. “Tonight we did not swing the bats well. We flew out 17 times tonight. We couldn’t get the ball out of the air. Any time you’re in the air all night, you’re not going to win ball games.”
Still, Davis said he isn’t going to panic during the team’s mini- slump.
“We’re trying to get our guys to stay on top of the baseball, that’s our goal,” Davis said. “Pitching been our stability all year and tonight, they didn’t throw their best. A couple of rough ones here and there, it’s going to happen. But I think we’re going to be fine.”
Florence pitchers walked 10 batters in the game. Starter Bobby Doran (2-4) lasted just three innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits. He walked four and struck out three.
Jamie Walczak had two of Florence’s four hits.
The RedWolves will host Wilmington tonight at 7:30.
