HARTSVILLE — Coker College announced Jon Stenman has been hired as the Cobras new volleyball coach.
Stenman takes the reins as the leader of the volleyball team after Chuck Mullen resigned to take a position at Division I St. Francis University (Pa).
Stenman, a native of Rochester, New York, comes to Coker from Texas A&M University, where he was the coach of the women’s club volleyball team and physical education instructor for the last year and a half. Prior to his time at A&M, Stenamn was the assistant coach at Shenandoah University for four seasons.
“I am very excited about coming to Coker,” Stenman said. “I knew Coker was the right place for me from the moment I stepped on campus. I felt very comfortable with the town, the school and the volleyball program. I am looking forward to the opportunity to lead the Cobras and continue the success that the program has had over the last few years.”
The Cobras went record of 18-16, including 14-4 in Conference Carolinas last year.
Before beginning his career as a coach and instructor, Stenamn was a member of the United States Marine Corps for four years and was a two-time member of the All-Marine Volleyball team.
“We are very pleased to have Jon join the Coker Athletics staff as the new women’s volleyball coach,” Coker AD Tim Griggs said.
