Lyman the key in Pelicans win

FREDERICK, MD - The Pelicans received another dominant pitching performance from their starter and scored enough runs to pick their eighth straight win over Keys 4-2.
Both starters held the hitters at bay through three scoreless innings. But it would by Jeff Lyman winning the mound battle as the Pelicans got to the Keys' Pedro Beato in the fourth. Lyman struck out five and allowed just one hit in his first trip through the Keys order.
Tyler Flowers singled to left field to start the fourth inning rally and advanced to second base on a Travis Jones single through the hole on the left side of the Keys' infield. Both would score to give the Pelicans a 2-0 lead as Jon Mark Owings ripped a line drive double down the left field line and into the left field corner.
Myrtle Beach doubled their lead with a pair of runs off of Beato in the sixth inning. Brandon Hicks led off the inning with a single and was doubled home by Flowers on a ball rifled into the gap in right center field. A batter later, Concepcion Rodriguez scored Flowers with a sacrifice fly to left field to extend the Pelicans lead to 4-0.
Lyman (2-2) departed the ballgame after five scoreless innings, baffling Frederick to the tune of just one hit and seven strikeouts. Lyman claimed his second win in the process. In two starts, Lyman has worked nine scoreless innings, while allowing just four hits and striking out 11.
Gonzalo Lopez replaced him and immediately ran into trouble in the sixth, walking four batters eventually walking in a run to put Frederick on the board and cut the lead to three runs at 4-1.
Lopez returned for the seventh and struggled in a similar fashion, walking two more and hitting another to load the bases with one out before departing in favor of Tyler Wilson. Wilson conceded an RBI single to Todd Davison to cut the lead to two runs and then the Keys appeared to have cut it to a one-run game on a wild pitch. But Mike Pierce was ruled to have missed home plate on appeal and was the second out of the inning. Wilson then retired pinch-hitter Paul Winterling to end the threat and the Pelicans remained in front, 4-2.
Wilson went on to strike out the side in the eighth inning before handing it off to fellow left-hander Bryan Dumesnil, who retired the side in order in the ninth for his ninth save of the season.
