Lady Chants Mash Morris

A 14-0 run in the first half propelled the Coastal Carolina University women’s basketball team (10-3) to a 99-31 win over Morris (2-13) Monday. The Lady Chanticleers had five players who scored in double figures and earned their 10th win of the season.
 
The game was tied 6-6 as Morris’ Tyneshia Eaddy hit two free throws at 17:39. Coastal would hold Morris scoreless for the next 4:28 as an old-fashion three-point play by senior Vicky Blanchard at 13:21 gave CCU a 20-6 lead. A tip-in from sophomore Lori Whitaker gave Coastal a 20-point lead (30-10) at 7:59. Coastal ended the half on a 22-8 run in the last 9:18 as freshman Sydnei Moss hit a three-pointer as the buzzer sounded to end the first half.
 
Sophomore Lacey Lyons Coastal with 13 first-half points. Blanchard added eight points and seven rebounds. Coastal shot 46.3 percent in the first half and forced the Hornets into 17 turnovers.
 
Coastal was sluggish out of the lockerroom, but an 8-0 run ending with a three-point play from redshirt freshman Lauren Grochowski  at 10:57 gave Coastal a 64-27 lead. Coastal would outscored Morris 35-4 the last 10:45 on its way to the 68-point victory.
 
Whitaker led Coastal with 16 points, going 7-of-11 from the field. Blachard had her second straight double-double, scoring 10 points and adding 12 rebounds. It is the third straight game a Lady Chant had a double-double. Freshman Kate Jasinski added 12 points and seven assists, a career high. Moss had a career high 16 points to go along with nine rebounds, while Lyons had 15 points and three assists.
 
Coastal shot over 50 percent from the field for the first time this season (50.6 percent). Coastal also had 19 steals and forced Morris into 32 turnovers. The Lady Chanticleers had 49 points in the paint, 43 points off of turnovers and had 26 fast-break points.

Coastal earned its 10th win, tying the 1982-83 team for the fastest to 10 wins in a season.
 
Coastal will travel to Savannah, Ga., to face Savannah State University Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m., in Tiger Arena.
