Pee Dee Academy interior linemen T.J. Bass and Jamie Estes represented the Golden Eagle football team after being selected to play in the SCISA North-South All-Star football game earlier this month at Orange-burg Prep.
“It was very fun and a cool experience,” Bass said, who played offensive tackle in the game, while Estes lined-up at defensive tackle.
“It was pretty tough, I had one sack and few tackles,” Estes said about playing in the game. Bass said the experience on the field was different; as he had to do a great deal of blocking in pass protection.
Both players said they enjoyed the competition and were glad to be selected, after finishing strong during the regular with a young team that looses just nine seniors. Bass and Estes continue the tradition of PDA athletes gaining recognition.
“It was an honor to play and be selected, I’m glad to have the chance to represent the school,” Estes said.
“These two will be greatly missed as leaders on our team and will hard to replace,” Head Football Coach Lon Spivey said.
As for the players returning to the Golden Eagle football program next season, the all-stars have no worries.
“I think they’ll be alright with a lot of good players coming around,” Estes said, with Bass adding that the group will work hard in the future.
