The seasons for Chesterfield QB Akeem Johnson and Central DE Catrell Allen ended entirely different ways. But they start this week as teammates, playing for the North Team in the North/South All-Star Game at Doug Shaw Stadium.
Johnson is one of two quarterbacks on the team. Johnson has led the Rams to three State Title games, and two championship victories, but there is some question about what he can do at the next level. The 5'11" Johnson knows he lacks the size that most scouts look for in a signal caller, but he hopes he can prove this week that he still has other qualities to entice scouts.
"For quarterbacks, my size is not too good, but my athletic ability is what I have to depend on," says Johnson. "It's not about the size, it's about the heart. Where I come from, it's about the heart, because we're all small."
Meanwhile, Allen is also looking to impress scouts this week. He does not have any offers yet, but the 6'1" 270 pound lineman says he definitely wants to go to school. While Johnson is still savoring another title victory, Allen is still trying to stomach the sting of defeat. Central lost to Dillon in Saturday's AA state championship game.
"It hurts that we lost but I'm out here to change how my high school career ends," says Allen. "It helps that I'm back out here playing."
The North/South All-Star Game is Saturday at 12:30pm at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach.
