SUMTER — After leading Carolina Academy’s girls tennis team to the SCISA Class 2A state championship, Lauren Reddeck earned another piece of hardware to add to her collection.
On Sunday, the senior was named SCISA player of the year in an awards ceremony held at Wilson Hall.
For the past 3 years, Reddeck has played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Bobcats. She was selected as her team’s MVP, and also received the Academic Award which is given to the player with the highest grade point average.
“Lauren has been a great team leader and role model for our team. She’s extremely competitive, whether on a tennis or basketball court, on the softball field, or in a classroom,” Carolina Academy coach Jenny Johnson said. “She always strives to be the best that she can be, and that’s what it’s all about, the pursuit of excellence.
I’m so proud of Lauren, and so happy for her, because she’s worked long and hard for many years on her tennis game. This is a great honor, not only for Lauren, but for Carolina Academy and for our entire tennis team. It took every player on our team to win the state championship which put our top player in a position to be considered as SCISA’s 2008 player of the year.”
