COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Devan Downey scored a game-high 19 points to lead South Carolina to a 72-48 win against Furman on Friday night.
Evaldas Baniulis scored 12 points, Zam Fredrick had 11 and Dominique Archie chipped in 10 for the Gamecocks (6-1). Archie also grabbed nine rebounds and notched three steals, which were both team-highs. Downey was 10-for-11 from the free-throw line, and Baniulis was 3-for-5 from behind the arc.
Jordan Miller led the Paladins (1-6) with 14 points, and Darryl Evans scored 12.
Both teams struggled from the field in the game, as South Carolina shot 36.7 percent (22 of 60) compared to a 33.3 mark (16 of 48) for Furman.
The Gamecocks outrebounded the Paladins 37-26, and capitalized on 22 Furman turnovers.
South Carolina, which led by 10 at halftime, went on a 24-8 run less than three minutes into second half to seal the win.
