While the Myrtle Beach Seahawk football team hasn't won a state title since 1984, many of the players on this year's team know all about winning a state championship. Because they did it nine months ago.
10 members of the Seahawk team were on the basketball team won the state championship last spring. Many of them are the leaders on this team as well - QB Everett Golson, WR Jamere Valentine, LB Steven Cobb, CB Demazio Skelton, just to name a few. While they may be different sports, those ten players know what it takes to take a title.
"I think it helps because now we've won a title, we know how to win one," says Golson. "I feel like I'm more experienced."
"Watching those kids go through that, its a big advantage to those ten kids, and for the rest of the team as well," adds Coach Scott Earley.
Of course, having most of the basketball team on the football field has left Myrtle Beach hoops coach DeAndre Scott without most of his team. But Scott also knows something about Chester - the team that Myrtle Beach is playing in the state championship game. He coached there before coming over the lead the Seahawks.
