The Darlington Lady Falcons’ basketball team finished the 2007-08 season as the Region 6 AAA Champions.
And head coach Brian Rozzell expects the same this season.
“We should repeat barring any mishaps here and there,” the coach said. “But our region is one of the toughest in the state in my opinion.”
While the team has lost Alicia Edwards and Debony Anderson to graduation, they will have the services once again of Kiara Patterson, Antoinette McPhail and Jazz Green. Green and McPhail played huge roles in last year’s success.
Rozzell said the team will be small for the season, but he will try to use that to its advantage. “We will use our size,” the coach joked. He said the team would try to push opponents by running the floor and pressuring on defense.
Rozzell also said he expects to play more of his bench than do most teams since they won’t be as competitive inside the paint.
Wilson and Crestwood, both region foes for the Falcons, have size on the inside that could give Darlington trouble, but Rozzell said fans could expect to see a fast-paced Lady Falcons team.
“Everybody likes to watch the fast-paced games,” he said. “That’s what we want to do.”
The Lady Falcons opened their season against West Florence Tuesday night and will play host to Hartsville on Friday at 6 p.m.
