Bottom line
The Jimmy Woods era begins in Timmonsville. Woods replaces Whirlwind icon Bill Tate, whom the stadium is named after.
Woods, a 10-year assistant under Tate, is ready to build the Whirlwinds, who are coming off a 3-8 season, back into contenders.
“It’s a little overwhleming walking behind a legend but it is also a challenge to continue something he started,” Woods said. “Coach Tate was a great mentor and I learned a lot from him.”
Fans might see a little more passing then they are used to as Woods is tinkering with putting in a version of the spread offense.
But if that doesn’t go over, Woods still has maybe the best 1-2 running back punch in the Pee Dee in seniors Antonio McAllister and Fred Wilhite, who each rushed for more than 1,000 yards last season.
