Bottom line
With 13 returning seniors, the experience should help in what’s shaping to be a thin roster that lacks depth, but makes up for it in overall team speed and quality athletes at the skill positions.
“We got a hungry group of young kids,” Lanham said, adding that last year’s group of starting freshman and sophomores have gained great experience.
Sophomore quarterback Bobby Crawford follows up three games as a starter in his freshman season by leading the team in his first full season under center.
“This is his team now, this is Bobby’s offense,” Lanham said of the young field general. All-Region wide receiver Seqwan McFarland is a go-to target with eight touchdown receptions in 2007. Receivers Greg Platt, Jamal Young, Josh James and Cedric Timmons will look to take some of the defensive attention off of the star. Running back by committee will feature Jeremy Leggette, Antron Smith, and speedster George Page. Sophomore Avery Grant solidifies the offensive and defensive line, has steadily improved each game coaches say. Lequone Reaves and Julian Sharpe are two quick and agile linemen that will be critical in the trenches.
“I think me being here for the second year with these group of coaches and group of kids, we finally have some continuity,” Lanham said. Mullins looks to crack into the playoffs after falling out of contention in 2007.
Defensively the Aucs look to be more aggressive with all-region defensive linemen Keyon Rogers and Julian Sharpe, along with linebackers Bennie Anderson, Timmy Smith, and Justin Leggette. Young and McFarland patrol the secondary at the safety position.
