Johnsonville took a step back in 2007, in Lewis Lineberger's third season. But in 2008, the Flashes are hoping to flashback to 2006, when they went 9-1 in the regular season.
Lineberger links the 4-6 season last year to a long list of injuries and youth. But he's hoping that turns into experience and health this season. The Flashes have 21 juniors and 9 seniors this year, and returning starters at most of the skill positions. The Flashes will lean heavily on QB Ethan Cribb, TB Rodrekas Edwards and WR Brock Cooper. The only starters the Flashes lost were on the lines, and Lineberger admits they will be thin in the trenches this year.
Like most Class A schools, Lineberger is dreading the possibilities of injuries, because his team is not deep, and most of the players go two ways. But with experience all over the field, Johnsonville is expecting a return to the playoffs after a one-season break - even though they have to battle through region foes Carvers Bay, Lake View, Hemingway and Green Sea-Floyds to get there.
