CLEMSON (AP) — Clemson's starting defensive tackle Rashaad Jackson will need surgery to fix a torn tendon and will be out until at least midseason.

Tigers coach Tommy Bowden made the announcement Monday.

Jackson tore a quad tendon during a scrimmage Saturday at Memorial Stadium. The school said he'll have surgery Tuesday.

Jackson is a senior who started 10 of 13 games last year and made 37 tackles, seven of them for loss. Jackson was also one of the more vocal leaders along the defensive front.

Bowden says junior Jamie Cumbie will take over while Jackson is sidelined. Bowden says senior Jock McKissic will also get more playing time.
