The Myrtle Beach Seahawks were like the New England Patriots of South Carolina High School football last year. They had a very prolific offense, went undefeated in the regular season, but fell short of winning the title. This year the Seahawks will not rest until finish what they start.
Coach Scott Earley says the team is more ready at this point of the season, then in any other since he took the reins at the Beach. While they lost WR/K Spencer Benton, RB Eddie "Super Mario" Jones, LB Bruce Taylor and LB Evan Rose, the 'hawks still have talent remaining all over the field. Most importantly, they return their entire offensive line. Their prolific quarterback, sophomore Everett Golson, and his favorite target, WR Jamere Valentine, also are back. Just about the only question facing Myrtle Beach this year will be how they shore up the middle of their defense, with the departures of Taylor and Rose. But with enough other weapons, the Seahawks can take their time ironing out those problems.
One thing that shouldn't be a problem - the completion of Doug Shaw Stadium. It was supposed to be finished by August 1st, but there are still a few renovations left. Earley has been guaranteed that the stadium will be finished by Myrtle's first home game.
