With Travis Huggins pitching for the Mustangs and Tommy Howell catching, the Cavaliers were the first up with Caleb Hill batting first. Travis Huggins and Kurtis Matthews scored two runs for the Mustangs, putting them ahead by one. The second inning brought no runs for either team, but as the Cavaliers got warmed up and adjusted to the Mustangs home field, they pulled ahead in the top of the third inning with homeruns by Keith Brown and Jacob.
Tyson Woods is the only senior on the Mullins-Marion Cavaliers team. This is his first year on the baseball team, where he plays centerfield. He has also played football for the Cavaliers as well as spent some time on the track and wrestling teams.
“My mom played softball when she was in school and she urged me to give baseball a try,” Woods said. “It’s my senior year, so I decided to give baseball a chance. I’m really looking forward to graduating and going to college.”
The Cavaliers moved to 3-2 and gave the Mustangs their first loss of the season with an 11-8 win.
