FLORENCE — The Florence RedWolves announce the return of two key pieces from 2007’s successful season.
Trey Thomas, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound junior infielder/outfielder from The Citadel, will be returning for his third summer with the team, and local product Barrett Kleinknecht a 6-foot, 190-pound sophomore infielder/pitcher from Florence-Darlington Tech will return for his second summer.
“I am very excited to return two former RedWolves this summer,” RedWolves coach Wes Davis said. “These two guys will be the first ones to give me an in depth tour of American Legion Stadium, considering they have played over a combined 150 games there.”
Bringing Kleinknecht back to the RedWolves was of paramount importance to the team.
“Keeping Barrett in town again for another summer is big for us as he is a local kid, and he is having a real good season for Tech,” Florence general manager Jamie Young said. “Barrett will be a big factor in our team being successful again this summer, and we believe he is up for the task.”
“Kleinknecht should have a solid stay in the lineup this season. He is a solid shortstop with some pop and a good idea about the game,” Davis said. “Barrett could also see time at other infield spots and on the mound.”
Florence also hopes Thomas’ return will pay huge dividends to the team as it seeks a Petitt Cup championship.
“Trey and his family have become a huge part of the RedWolves family, and we are happy to have them coming back again,” Young said. “Trey is a team leader that can play many positions, and like Barrett, should help continue on our winning ways.”
“Thomas is a third-year guy who is a great leader and is very versatile. He has the ability to be an everyday player at numerous positions,” Davis said. “Trey is a talented player who plays hard every pitch of the game.”
