The Lake City Panthers took advantage of a six-run first inning to take over first place in Region V-3A on Tuesday, April 8, with a 12-6 region win over Wilson. The Panthers, 14-6 overall and 6-1 in Region V-3A, were led offensively by third baseman Shon Carson, who went 4-4 at the plate with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored. Justin Smalls, Chance Coker and Sheldon Robinson each went 2-3 at the plate. Coker and Robinson each hit a home run and drove in three runs. Pitcher Ryan Fedkenhauer recorded the win for Lake City, throwing 5-1/3 innings and giving up one earned run and three walks while striking out four. The Panthers will play three games next week, hosting Darlington Tuesday, at Myrtle Beach Thursday and hosting Marlboro County Friday to close out the regular season. Lake City pitcher Jesse Matthews started for the Panthers, but left the game after a collision at home plate. Ryan Fedkenhauer earned the win for Lake City.
