This month’s Hometown Hero is known by many as a DJ at a popular radio station, but, friends say it’s the work he does behind the scenes that makes him a star.

The name Scott Richards may be familiar to you if you listen to Easy 105.9/Easy 100.7, but off the air Scott Richards is Matt Sedota.

In addition to being a DJ, Sedota is the general manager of the radio station and a man friends say is a big believer in supporting community events.

“We do like to get involved with as many projects as possible over the course if the year,” Sedota said.

Longtime friend Deb Bramlett described Sedota as “one of the best people I know.”

She said that although he’s an on-air radio personality, when it comes to the work he does in the community, Sedota actually shies away from the spotlight.

“He puts everyone first – the community, his family. He’s just really behind the scenes. Very low key.”

“You’d be surprised where he shows up, and people don’t even know he’s there – that he’s working.” she said.

For more than 25 years Sedota has been an organizer or participant in countless events, including food drives, charity fundraisers, community festivals and much more.

Recently, he and the radio station staff put together a cook book to sell and donate the proceeds to The American Red Cross.

Sedota said he enjoys helping local organizations.

“Whether it’s a church having a bake sale or an organization like Coastal Chorale having concerts. We try to promote and help these people as much as we can wherever their events are.”

Sedota said he thanks the staff of the radio station for lending much of their support to many events and causes.

“It’s not like I can do all of these things on my own. We have the support staff, and the enthusiasm from the people that are on-air, behind the scenes and sales – that’s how this works and that’s how these things are successful. It’s not just me.”

Sedota said he had no idea he would be selected as this month’s Hometown Hero. “I was surprised and touched,” he said.
