Researchers from the East Carolina Development Corporation will release the findings of an Economic Impact Study of Santee-Cooper's proposed coal-fired power plant Friday afternoon in Florence.
The study was commissioned by the South Carolina Coastal Conservation League, a group opposed to the project, which Santee-Cooper wants to build near Kingsburg in southern Florence County.
The report will be released at 12:30 p.m. during news conference at Redbone Alley restaurant at 1903 Palmetto Street.
According to a news release, the event will feature Rev. Leo Woodbury of the ECDC, Dr. Benetha George, a retired Florence area physician, and Mr. Scott Moore, author of the economic analysis.
The release says the study will take a critical but realistic look at economic prospects for the plant and surrounding communities.
The report comes in the wake of an economic study commissioned and released by Santee-Cooper last year showed the project would have a positive impact on jobs and the region’s ability to lure industry.
News 13, the Morning News and scnow.com will have more on this story later today.
