Gregg Park 17 Hampton/Varnville 1

FLORENCE, SC - Brandyn Quiller and Aaron O’Neil each rapped out three hits each and combined to drive in seven runs to lead Gregg Park to a 17-1 win over Hampton/Varnville in the opening round of the 2009 McLeod Health Dixie Youth Baseball Majors State Tournament, Saturday (July 25) in Florence.

Qullier, who drove in four runs, also pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win.  O’Neil homered and drove in three, while Hunter Groomes homered and had three RBIs.

Eric Mulligan Jr. drove in Hampton/Varnville’s lone run with a sacrifice fly, plating Mitchell Bridgers who had doubled.  Right-hander Austin Terry was the losing pitcher for Hampton/Varnville.

Gregg Park advances to play on Sunday at 8 p.m. against Surfside Beach.  Hampton/Varnville will face York Central on Sunday at 4 p.m.


Surfside Beach 25 York Central 1

FLORENCE, SC – Surfside Beach scored 15 runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to a 25-1 win over York Central in the opening round of the 2009 McLeod Health Dixie Youth Baseball Majors State Tournament, Saturday (July 25) in Florence.

Lead-off batter Trevor Bigham homered twice, scored four times, and drove in four runs to lead Surfside Beach.  Devin Melko had three hits, including a double and a homer, and plated four runs, while Buck Bacot and Finn Melko both hit solo home runs.

Bigham was the winning pitcher.

Ryan Gilbert scored York Central’s lone run, while Hunter Horne, Weston Sandifer, and Hamilton McGarity each had a base hit.  Gilbert was the losing pitcher.

Surfside Beach advances to play on Sunday at 8 p.m. against Gregg Park.  York Central will face Hampton/Varnville on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Midland 9 McLeod Park 8

FLORENCE, SC – Hunter Logan homered and doubled, scored three times, and drove in five runs to lead Midland to a 9-8 win over McLeod Park in the opening round of the 2009 McLeod Health Dixie Youth Baseball Majors State Tournament, Saturday night (July 25) in Florence.

Austin Price went 2-for-3 and scored twice for Midland.  Tyler Baker started and got the win for Midland, while Grant Petrey survived a two-run homer by McLeod Park’s Grayson Cottingham in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn the save.

Austin Drummond hit a three-run homer for McLeod Park and Steven Calcutt connected on a long two-run shot.  Calcutt was the losing pitcher. 

Midland advances to play on Sunday at 8 p.m. against Lake Marion.  McLeod Park will face Walhalla on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Maple Park 10 Laurens 0

FLORENCE, SC – William Goodwin drove in five runs with a single and a double to lead Maple Park to a 10-0 win over Laurens in the opening round of the 2009 McLeod Health Dixie Youth Baseball Majors State Tournament, Saturday night (July 25) in Florence.

In addition to Goodwin, Matthew Thomas and Mason Park each had two hits for Maple Park.  Righty starter Adam Martin and two relievers combined on the one-hit shutout.

Jakayious Williams hit a one-out double for Laurens in the fifth inning.  Pee Wee Wilson was the losing pitcher.

Maple Park advances to play on Sunday at 6 p.m. against Hartsville National.  Laurens will face Parks Field American on Sunday at 6 p.m.

Hartsville National 11 Parks Field American 5

FLORENCE, SC – Rayshawn Coe hit a two-run homer and Chandler Melton stroked a two-run single to highlight a six-run final inning for Hartsville National and lift their team to an 11-5 victory over Parks Field American in the opening round of the 2009 McLeod Health Dixie Youth Baseball Majors State Tournament, Saturday (July 25) in Florence.

Harrison Hawkins and Worth Burch both had three hits apiece for Hartsville National, while Coe finished the game with four RBIs and Cody Kelley drove in three runs and had two hits.

Burch got the win in relief, while Darran Jones was the losing pitcher.

Matty Powell drilled a three-run homer to give Parks Field American a 4-3 lead in the third inning.  Kenny Frank had a pair of hits and scored once for Parks Field American.

Hartsville National advances to play on Sunday at 6 p.m. against Maple Park.  Parks Field American will face Laurens on Sunday at 6 p.m.

Lake Marion 6 Walhalla 2

FLORENCE, SC – Wyatt Rucker hit a two-run homer in the first inning and a three-run shot in the third frame to carry Lake Marion to a 6-2 win over Walhalla in the opening round of the 2009 McLeod Health Dixie Youth Baseball Majors State Tournament, Saturday (July 25) in Florence.

Michael Pascoe accounted for Lake Marion’s other run, scoring on an error in the fifth inning.  Charlie Carpenter was the winning pitcher with two hitless innings.

David Medlin had a hit and scored once for Walhalla.  He pitched a complete game, striking out 12, but was tagged with the loss.

Lake Marion advances to play on Sunday at 8 p.m. against Midland.  Walhalla will face McLeod Park on Sunday at 4 p.m.


AAA RESULTS from Saturday, July 25
North Myrtle Beach 5 Dillon 4

FLORENCE, SC – Garrison Gause capped a two-out, five-run rally in the bottom of the last inning with a two-run single to lift North Myrtle Beach to an improbable 5-4 victory over Dillon in the opening round of the 2009 McLeod Health Dixie Youth Baseball AAA State Tournament, Saturday (July 25) in Florence.

North Myrtle Beach trailed 4-0 with two outs, but strung together five straight hits to pull out the win.  Donald Hansis had two hits, including a double, for NMB.  Gause also pitched the final two innings and got the win.

Thadeous Barnes had a pair of run-scoring singles for Dillon, while Nicholas Smith had an RBI-single and scored twice.  Ray McGirt pitched a complete game with five strikeouts in the losing effort.

North Myrtle Beach advances to play on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. against Parks Field American.  Dillon will face Rock Hill National on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

Parks Field American 6 Rock Hill National 5

FLORENCE, SC – Johnathan Watts drove in the winning run with a two-out double as Parks Field American rallied for a 6-5 victory over Rock Hill National in the opening round of the 2009 McLeod Health Dixie Youth Baseball AAA State Tournament, Saturday (July 25) in Florence.

Parks Field American trailed 5-1 entering its last at bat, but scored five times to get the win.  Olin McCurry was 2-for-3, including a run-scoring RBI in the rally, to lead Parks Field American.  McCurry was also the winning pitcher.

Wes Bostic had an RBI double for Rock Hill National, while Daniel Lipe had a run-scoring single.  Jeff Taylor was the losing pitcher.

Parks Field American advances to play on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. against North Myrtle Beach.  Rock Hill National will face Dillon on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

Maple Park 9 Seneca 4

FLORENCE, SC – Zyier Turner, Tyler Davis, Djuan Scudder, and Harrison Crouch each had two hits apiece to lead Maple Park to a 9-4 win over Seneca in the opening round of the 2009 McLeod Health Dixie Youth Baseball AAA State Tournament, Saturday night (July 25) in Florence.

Trailing 3-2 entering the fourth frame, Maple Park scored twice in the fourth and five times in the sixth inning.  Benj Jones was the winning pitcher.

CJ Wilson rapped out a pair of hits for Seneca, including an RBI double.  Jake Donald was the losing pitcher. 

Maple Park advances to play on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. against Pineview.  Seneca will face Bishopville on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.


Pineview 15 Bishopville 5

FLORENCE, SC – Pineview scored nine runs in the second inning and went on to a 15-5 win over Bishopville in the opening round of the 2009 McLeod Health Dixie Youth Baseball AAA State Tournament, Saturday (July 25) in Florence.

Austin Linebrink had a pair of hits and two runs batted in to lead Pineview, while Ryan Harbin drilled a two-run homer and Cange Cribb had an RBI double.  Linebrink was the winning pitcher.

Nicholas Stokes was 2-for-2 to lead Bishopville.

Pineview advances to play on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. against Maple Park.  Bishopville will face Seneca on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

Sumter American 10 Gregg Park 0

FLORENCE, SC – Preston Lilze had two hits, scored twice, and drove in four runs to lead Sumter American to a 10-0 victory over Gregg Park in the opening round of the 2009 McLeod Health Dixie Youth Baseball AAA State Tournament, Saturday (July 25) in Florence.

Ryan Touchberry was the winning pitcher as Sumter American hurlers limited Gregg Park to one hit, a lead-off double by Maddison Hammons in the fourth inning.

Jordan Holladay also had two hits, scored twice, and drove in one run for Sumter American.

Nick Clary was the losing pitcher.

Sumter American advances to play on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. against Mid Carolina.  Gregg Park will face Hilton Head American on Sunday at 5:30 p.m.

Mid Carolina 8 Hilton Head American 4

FLORENCE, SC – Mid Carolina snapped a 3-3 deadlock by scoring five times in the bottom of the fourth inning and went on to an 8-4 win over Hilton Head American in the opening round of the 2009 McLeod Health Dixie Youth Baseball AAA State Tournament, Saturday (July 25) in Florence.

Trey Kinard was 2-for-3 with a run scored to pace the Mid Carolina attack.  Lead-off batter Jhi Wright reached base three times and scored twice, while Cade Ruff and Preston Farmer delivered run-scoring doubles.  Kinard was also the winning pitcher.

Tracy Julian led Hilton Head American with three hits and a run scored, while James Bartholomew drove in two runs with a double and a fielder’s choice.  Both Carmen Majinski and Collin Kaison had two hits apiece.  Cameron Blackshear was the losing pitcher.

Mid Carolina advances to play on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. against Sumter American.  Hilton Head American will face Gregg Park on Sunday at 5:30 p.m.
