A pair of Pee Dee NFL players are battling injuries.
Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons, who played at Wilson, is dealing with a high ankle sprain while Lamar’s Michael Hamlin, a safety for the Cowboys, broke his wrist and is expected to miss more than a month.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Timmons was walking around the team’s practice facility in a boot and has been ruled out for Thursday’s preseason finale against Carolina.
Timmons’ status for next week’s season opener against the Titans is uncertain. The third-year player is penciled in to start at middle linebacker for the defending Super Bowl champions.
Timmons made two starts and played in all 16 games last season, recording 65 tackles and intercepting one pass. He has 12 tackles in three preseason games this year.
Hamlin, a rookie, is expected to miss six weeks after breaking his wrist in Saturday’s preseason game against the 49ers, according to the Dallas Morning News. The paper also said there is a chance Hamlin might be put on injured reserve and miss the entire season.
Hamlin is the latest of the Cowboys rookies injured this preseason.
Third-round pick Robert Brewster (torn pectoral) and fourth-round pick Brandon Williams (torn ACL) are out for the season.
“It hurts us,” Cowboys coach Wade Phillips told the Dallas Morning News. “We thought that these guys were going to come in and help us on special teams. And it looked like they were.
“It won’t be the case for a little while.”
Hamlin is third on the team with six tackles this preseason.
