TCA varsity girls tennis takes region championship

The Carolina Academy’s varsity girls tennis team has claimed the regional championship after finishing a second undefeated season with an 8-1 victory over Pee Dee Academy.

The Lady Bobcats will advance to the South Carolina Independent School Association state playoffs, which began Monday and will run through Saturday.

The team beat Pee Dee Academy 8-1 on Oct. 13 in Mullins. The results were as follows:

Singles:
1. Rebecca Weaver (TCA) beat Caroline Shelley (Pee Dee) 6-2, 6-2.
2. Taylor Osborne (TCA) beat Faith Baxley (Pee Dee) 6-1, 6-3.
3. Ali Courtney (TCA) beat C.C. Causey (Pee Dee) 6-1, 6-1.
4. Tori Osborne (TCA) beat Amber Mincey (Pee Dee) 6-2, 6-0.
5. Haley Hancock (TCA) beat Anna Scruggs (Pee Dee) 6-3, 6-2.
6. Haven Brown (TCA) beat Kelsey Coleman (Pee Dee) 2-6, 6-3, 10-4.

Doubles:
1. Rebecca Weaver and Taylor Osborne (TCA) beat Caroline Shelley and Faith Baxley (Pee Dee) 6-2, 2-6, 12-10.
2. Tori Osborne and Haley Hancock (TCA) lost to C.C. Causey and Kelsey Coleman (Pee Dee) 1-6, 6-0, 8-10.
3. Ali Courtney and Haven Brown (TCA) beat Megan Hooks and Amber Mincey (Pee Dee) 6-3, 6-1.
