Lake City’s Sheldon Robinson to play in Shrine Bowl

When Lake City High School’s football season comes to an end later this year, Sheldon Robinson will still have one more game to play.
The defensive back, running back and kick returner is among the 44 seniors selected to represent South Carolina in the annual Shrine Bowl.
Robinson will join his teammates for a week of practice before facing the North Carolina team Dec. 19 at Gibbs Stadium on the Wofford College campus, in Spartanburg. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
“I am honored and blessed to be a part of the South Carolina Shrine Bowl team,” Robinson said in a statement. “This is an honor that is due to my family, coaches and teammates. I will do everything I can to represent Lake City High School in a positive way.”
“I am extremely happy for Sheldon,” Lake City varsity football head coach Justin Gentry said in a statement. “He has been a four-year starter for us and has provided Lake City fans with some phenomenal plays over the years. Sheldon truly deserves this honor, and I know he will represent our school and community with great pride.”
Through nine games, Robinson has 395 yards rushing and eight touchdowns on 22 carries. He has also returned three punts and one kick off for touchdowns. Defensively, he has 38 total tackles, one interception, one fumble recovery and one caused fumble.
Players for the Shrine Bowl are nominated by their high school coaches. Final roster selections are made by the state’s Shrine Bowl head coach and his seven assistant coaches.
Other Lake City High School players to be named to the Shrine Bowl are Scotty Cooper (2006), John Kirby (1999), Damonte McKenzie (1994), Joseph Hannah (1975) and Byron Godwin (1959).
Advance tickets are available at the Shrine Bowl Office and cost $20 for a reserve section and $10 for general admission. On game day, reserve section tickets will be $25 and general admission seats will be $15.
