Lake City spoiled North Myrtle Beach’s homecoming Friday night with a 33-11 Region 7-3A win over the Chiefs.
Running back Shon Carson led the Panthers’ ground attack, rushing for 224 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries. Carson scored on runs of 17, 42 and 32 yards.
Sheldon Robinson added 64 rushing yards, including a 58-yard touchdown run. Quarterback DaShawn Butler also connected with De’Charles Burgess for a 30-yard touchdown pass.
The Panthers held a 13-3 lead at the half and extended the lead to 19-3 until the third period, when North Myrtle Beach closed the gap to 19-11.
The chiefs had an opportunity to score another touchdown and possibly tie the game, but Lake City’s Dominic Wilson stripped the ball from Chiefs running back Corbin Randall. The Panthers recovered the fumble at their own 25 yard line to keep North Myrtle Beach out of the end zone.
With the win, Lake City improved to 7-1 overall and 2-1 in region play. The Panthers will play host Socastee this Friday for their last home game of the regular season.
