The Lake City High School varsity football team guaranteed another home game, to come during the playoffs, by defeating Socastee 41-7 ahead of this week’s Georgetown matchup.
Senior night at Ward Memorial Stadium had represented what was possibly the final home game of the season for the Panthers. Lake City needed this crucial Region 7-3A matchup against Socastee to guarantee a home game in the first round of the lower state playoffs.
The Panthers’ offensive display was led by Shon Carson and Sheldon Robinson, while the Blue D caused six Socastee fumbles and a scoop-and-score touchdown by junior linebacker Cody Cooper.
Robinson had a huge first half, with three carries for 83 yards and two scores while also snaring a 72-yard touchdown reception from quarterback DaShawn Butler.
Carson was also dominant with a 139 rushing yards and two touchdowns on only six carries.
The Panthers, 8-1 overall and 4-1 in region play, will travel to Georgetown on Friday night for their final regular season game.
