In a much needed region game, Mullins and Loris took it to overtime Friday as the Lions stunned the Auctioneers 21-14 Friday night.

Turnovers plagued the Aucs as Loris defensive lineman Byron Stephens scored off a 25-yard fumble return just four seconds into the game. Austin Grant’s PAT made it a 6-0 advantage for the Lions.

Mullins struck back early on the strength of a 13-yard quarterback keeper from B.J. Crawford and 32 yards on the ground from running back George Page.

Fullback Timmy Johnson capped off the 54-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run at the 7:22 mark in the first quarter, setting up a 7-6 score.

Paged rushed for 40 of his game high 71 yards in the first half and gave Mullins the advantage with a 2-yard touchdown run. Crawford connected with Page with a short pass for the two-point conversion and 14-7 advantage 18 seconds before halftime. Aucs wide receiver Cedric Timmons’ highlight 34-yard reception was the key to sustaining the 85-yard scoring drive.

The Aucs defense played a pivotal role throughout the game, defending the redzone on multiple occasions. Johnson led with nine tackles and Aucs outside linebacker Antonio Anderson had seven stops along with six quarterback hurries.

However, Loris quarterback Kentrez Hilton broke free on a 67-yard touchdown run with 24 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Grant evened the game 14-14 with the PAT.

During the fourth quarter Mullins defensive lineman Avery Grant shutdown a drive and was followed up with a fumble recovery from JimDonvan Reaves.

With 2:43 remaining the Crawford connected with Timmons for 32 yards setting up shop six yards away from zone. A tough bounce on the field goal crossbar couldn’t put the Lions away on the 24-yard attempt and the game headed to overtime.

Three plays later Hilton provided the go-ahead score from a yard away.
