Make your plans to attend June 21’s return of the ASA Southern Modified Series, along with other DMS Local Divisions to the Dillon Motor Speedway. These Modifieds, with their unique hot-rod body styles and wide tires, made their inaugural 15-second laps around the track last September. You won’t want to miss their return. Also, mark your calendar to attend the Speedway’s Independence Day Spectacular and Fireworks Display on July 5. For information about upcoming racing events, call the DMS hotline, (843) 774-1888, or visit http://www.dillonmotorspeedway.com.
Race fans came from miles around to attend Dillon Motor Speedway’s first nationally televised event, June 14, the “Seneca Tobaccoville USA 100.” This race featured late model stock cars from the touring series, the ASA Southeast RC Cola/Moonpie Series. These cars soared around the track with so much horsepower that it could make goose bumps appear on your arms. Based on the information Dillon Motor Speedway received from the ASA Southeast RC Cola Series, the “Seneca Tobaccoville USA 100” will appear approximately 40 times between the channels of Fox Sports South, Speed, and Versus Channel. The first air date should be July 2 with another air date of July 9 on Fox Sports South.
Currently, Dillon Motor Speedway does not have the schedule of air times or other air dates. However, we will make every attempt to notify all race fans as soon as this information becomes available. Keep checking your local newspaper, http://www.dillonmotorspeedway.com, or http://www.asasoutheast.com. Exciting racing also occurred within the Pro Challenge series and Dillon Motor Speedway’s local racing divisions, the Palmetto Auto Auction Chargers and the Four-Cylinders. The Pro Challenge Series is another touring division of smaller stock cars similar to the Allison Legacy Series where drivers between the ages of 12-18 compete to see who is tough enough to grasp the checkered flag.
The first heated event of the night was within the young daredevils from the Pro Challenge Series. These youngsters soared around the track fearless to provide some of the most intense racing of the evening. In fact the “top three” points leaders definitely made it a heart-pounding show. Clint King, age 12, from Thomasville, N.C., won the battle against his other competitors to take his second win at Dillon Motor Speedway. King won in 2007 during the Pro Challenge’s inaugural race at DMS. Nick Stroupe battled all night against King to finally settle in second place, followed by Devon Haun who haunted their rear-view mirrors to finish in third place. Justin Crider and Stephen Bergh rounded out the top-five.
The next race which was the first local division to compete last Saturday was the dynamic Palmetto Auto Auction Chargers. Kent Harper in the #8 car regained control of the Chargers to take yet again another victory lap around Dillon Motor Speedway. Todd Amerson had another outstanding performance to finish in a close second place. After finishing third, it appears Mike Watts has returned with fierce determination after his front stretch collision with Ricky Locklair, the front stretch fence, and front stretch wall. J.J. June and Kevin Ellis held strong to complete the “top five.”
The ASA Southeast RC Cola/Moonpie Series finally set the stage to compete in the nationally televised, “Seneca Tobaccoville USA 100 Race.” When you’re hot, you’re hot. Jay Middleton knows that feeling too well. A back-up car, a new racetrack, and hot and humid conditions could not slow the RC Cola / Moonpie ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour Points Leader at Dillon Motor Speedway who finished first last Saturday. However, the last several laps were a nose-to-tail battle between second place finisher, Preston Peltier and Middleton. After a caution with eight laps to go, Peltier ensured his fate after spinning tires during the restart which enabled Middleton to move ahead toward victory. Taylor Sattlefield, Jess Mattox, and Chris Fontaine rounded out the “top five.”
The final race of the evening occurred within the sizzling Four-Cylinder division. Daniel Jones in the #17 car returned to Dillon Motor Speedway on fire to claim victory last Saturday. Jones put forth fierce competition during the race. However, pressure was applied after second place finisher, Brian Jordan, ended his evening on the tail of Jones. In fact, Jordan made his way to second place after starting the race in last position. Mike Stafford finished in a solid third place respectively, followed by Brian Owens and Chuck Wall, who completed the “top five.”
