FLORENCE — David Haselden pitched seven shutout innings and Drew Haynes produced the only run of the game as the Florence RedWolves defeated the Wilmington Sharks 1-0 on Saturday at Legion Field.
The victory pulled Florence within a half game of Wilson, which lost the first game of a doubleheader to Columbia. The result of the second game wasn’t available at press time.
The RedWolves will host their regular-season finale Monday against Wilson, which has three games left.
Haselden (5-3) was sharp on the mound, allowing five hits and walking just one while striking out four.
John Taylor pitched the eighth inning, and Brad Raj picked up his first save of the season.
The RedWolves who had just three hits, scored the game’s only run in the sixth inning. Austin Smetana led off with a walk and advanced to second on Steven DiMatteo’s infield single.
After Barrett Kleinknecht moved the runners over with a bunt, Haynes grounded out to the shortstop to score Smetana and make it 1-0.
Chris Kennedy (1-3) took the loss for Wilmington.
