Tobs rally past RedWolves

FLORENCE — Aaron Watkins’ sacrifice fly in the ninth inning helped the Wilson Tobs to a 3-2 come-from-behind win over the Florence RedWolves on Friday in front of 1,720 fans at Legion Field.
With the victory, Wilson is just a 1/2-game behind Florence in the South Division standings.
The two teams play tonight at Wilson beginning at 7:05 p.m.
Dale Cornstubble led Wilson with two hits and scored the winning run.
Steven Huff pitched two scoreless innings of relief to get the win. Jason Sullivan got the save.
Steven Neff (0-3) took the loss for Florence in relief of David Haselden, who allowed two earned runs and six hits while striking out nine in eight innings.
Florence has lost three straight games, all coming fter the All-Star break. It’s the team’s first three-game losing streak since it dropped three straight from June 20-23.
The RedWolves have scored only seven runs during the losing streak.
Drew Haynes led Florence with two hits and an RBI. Seven of the nine RedWolves starters had at least one hit.
Florence scored one run in each of the first two innings off Wilson starter Tim Adelman. Patrick Dolan had an RBI single in the first inning to score Haynes, who added an RBI an inning later to score Richard Pirkle to make it 2-0.
Trailing 2-0 in the seventh, Wilson scored two runs, one coming off a Watkins RBI and another coming on an error.
Tonight’s game at Wilson is the first of five straight road games for the RedWolves, who won’t return to Legion Field until they face Fayetteville at on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
