FLORENCE — Wilson’s two-run eighth inning spoiled a shutout bid by Florence’s John Taylor on Tuesday night and the Tobs beat the RedWolves 2-1 at Legion Field.
Bryant Lopez, who led off the inning with a bunt single and made it to third with the help of a couple of throwing errors, stole home to tie it 1-1 and Justin Vasquez hit a solo home run with two outs to give Wilson its 2-1 lead.
Jordan Cudney got his first save of the season with a three-up, three-down inning in the ninth, sending the RedWolves to their third consecutive loss.
The RedWolves are now 1-5 in one-run games this season.
Drew Haynes drove in Florence’s run with a bases-loaded single in the fifth inning that scored Herman Petzold.
But that’s all the RedWolves could get out of the no-out, bases-loaded situation as Wilson starter Jeff Brown struck out Zach Caldwell and got Tyler Burnett to ground into an inning-ending double play.
Taylor appeared for a while he would make the single run stand up and wound up pitching a complete game, surrendering five hits, walking one and striking out four.
Wilson (13-9) used four pitchers. Jerris Springfield, who relieved Brown with one out in the sixth, got the win, giving up a hit in 1 2/3 innings.
Petzold was 3-for-4 to lead Florence (12-11), which plays at Columbia at 7:05 p.m. today.
Vasquez was 2-for-2 for the Tobs.
