FLORENCE – Michael Rudman tossed three innings of perfect relief to help the Wilmington Sharks top the Florence RedWolves 8-3 on Saturday night at Legion Field.

Working the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, Rudman (2-0) struck out six.

The game was delayed by rain with the score tied 3-3 in the seventh inning. Following the delay, Wilmington touched Florence reliever Jeremiah Mieners (0-1) for four hits and three runs in the eighth.

Mieners, who failed to record an out, gave up four straight singles to open the eighth. John Nester’s run-scoring single pushed the Sharks to a 4-3 lead.

Florence starter Kent Altman pitched seven innings, gave up seven hits, three runs (two earned), walked one and struck out two.

Jamie Walczak and Barrett Kleinknecht each had two hits. Kleinknecht led off the bottom of the third with a solo home run to left that tied things 3-3.

The RedWolves travel to Columbia on Monday before hosting the Petersburg Generals on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
