WILMINGTON, N.C. — Making his first start since June 7, Florence infielder Herman Petzold went 2-for-2 and drove in five runs as the RedWolves rolled to a 9-3 Coastal Plain League win over the Wilmington Sharks on Monday night.
Petzold, who has been sidelined with a groin injury, had a three-run double and two sacrifice flies.
“He’s a hard-nose player who would have loved to have been in the lineup last week, but we wanted to make sure he was healthy,” said Florence coach Wes Davis. “He’s been in the cage hitting and it showed tonight.”
Florence starter John Taylor (2-1) worked six innings. He gave up eight hits, two runs, walked two and struck out six.
The RedWolves’ Tyler Burnett belted a solo home run, his first of the season.
Florence has won four straight and leads the CPL South by a game over Fayetteville.
The RedWolves host the Wilson Tobs tonight at 7:30.
