RedWolves increase lead in South Division

FLORENCE — Patrick Dolan tossed three innings of scoreless relief and Sam DiMatteo belted his fifth home run to lead the Florence RedWolves to a 6-2 Coastal Plain League win over the Wilmington Sharks at Legion Field on Wednesday night.

Dolan came on in relief of Kyle Deese in the seventh. He gave up three hits, walked one and struck out six to earn the save.

Deese worked six innings, gave up three hits, two runs, walked six and struck out four.

DiMatteo, who was 1-for-5 with two RBI, hit a solo homer in the fifth to give the RedWolves a 3-2 lead.Zach Caldwell was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Drew Haynes was 2-for-3.

The RedWolves, who lead the CPL South by 2 1/2 games, travel to Columbia tonight at 7.

Kleinknecht, Petzold named to all-star team

Florence shortstop Barrett Kleinknecht and second baseman Herman Petzold have been named starters for the American team for Tuesday’s CPL All-Star game in Wilmington.

Kleinknecht is batting .275 with four doubles, a team-leading six home runs and a team-high 29 RBI.

Petzold is batting .312 with two doubles, a triple, a homer and 19 RBI.
