WILSON, N.C. — Three Wilson errors led to four unearned runs as the Florence RedWolves earned a 6-2 win over the Tobs on Monday.

The win improved Florence to 20-14 overall and 5-1 in the second half of the Coastal Plain League’s South Division. It also helped the RedWolves gain a game on the Tobs (3-2, 20-13).

Barrett Kleinknecht (2-0) picked up the victory on the mound after allowing two runs on seven hits in six innings with four strikeouts and one walk.

John Taylor (3) got the save after tossing three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five.

Patrick Dolan put Florence up 1-0 in the top of the second inning thanks to some miscues by Wilson. Dolan reached first on an error by catcher Rob Folsom, then went all the way to third on a failed
pickoff attempt that got away from Tobs starter Jesse Hernandez. Dolan scored on Herman Petzold’s RBI groundout.

Kleinknecht homered in the top of the fourth to make it 2-0, but the Tobs plated two runs over the fourth and fifth innings to knot the game at 2-2.

But another Wilson error opened the door for a big inning for the RedWolves. In the sixth, Sam DiMatteo singled, stole second and scored on a Matt Johns throwing error to put Florence up 3-2. Petzold’s
sacrifice fly three batters later brought home another unearned run and Preston Shuey finished off the inning with an RBI double.

Tyler Burnett’s RBI single in the seventh finished the scoring.

DiMatteo went 3-for-5 to lead the RedWolves and Burnett added two hits.
