The Pelicans magic number is down to one after finishing off a four game sweep of the Warthogs, 4-1 on Thursday night at BB&T Coastal Field. The Pelicans have not made the playoffs since 2002.

The Pelicans good luck seemed to be coming to an end. But thanks to one big inning, Myrtle Beach kept their momentum rolling to the All-Star Break. Myrtle Beach scored seven runs in the 8th inning to top Winston-Salem 10-7 Monday night at BB&T Coastal Field.

Homers key ‘Wolves’ win
The Florence RedWolves used the long ball to pull out a win Saturday. Barrett Kleinknecht and Cody Stinger each blasted fourth-inning homers to lead Florence to an 8-3 win over Wilmington at Legion Field.

Adleman, Tobs stifle RedWolves
WILSON, N.C. — A day after Steve Grife’s two-hit performance on the mound for Florence, the RedWolves had the tables turned on the them at Wilson.
The Tobs’ Tim Adleman turned in a complete-game performance, tossing six perfect innings before finally giving up just one run on two hits as Wilson edged the RedWolves 2-1 on Friday.
Phantoms blow out Fayetteville
FLORENCE — The last time Florence and Fayetteville hooked up on the field turf, it took a record comeback by the Phantoms to pull out a win at the Crown Coliseum.
Friday night at the Florence Civic Center, Florence needed no such effort.

Grife stifles Blowfish as RedWolves win opener
FLORENCE — Thunderstorms and heavy rain Wednesday night forced the Florence RedWolves to wait an extra day to start their season.
The wait was well worth it.
Florence got solid pitching from Steve Grife and two RBI from Myckie Lugbauer as the RedWolves rolled to a 6-1 win over the Blowfish on Thursday at Legion Field.
RedWolves rained out, open season at home
The Florence RedWolves will have to wait one more day to begin their season. Florence’s game Wednesday at Asheboro was rained out. The game will not be made up because it isn’t a divisional game.

Both the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and Florence RedWolves could not find safety from the rain on the road last night. Both teams had their games rained out.
Jones helps Pelicans outslug Warthogs
USC product Travis Jones has had an up and down season in his first year with the Pelicans. Tuesday night was one of the ups. Jones blasted two home runs, leading Myrtle Beach to a 9-7 victory over the Warthogs in Winston-Salem.

Swept the Keys Under the Mat
A three run rally in the top of the ninth broke the tie between the Pelicans and Keys, and provided enough runs for the birds to pull off the series sweep in a 6-3 win.

The Pelicans added to their first place lead, as Ernesto Meija homered twice in the 8-4 win over the Keys. Myrtle Beach picked up their third win in a row as Scott Diamond earned his debut victory with six strong innings pitched.

For the second straight night the Myrtle Beach Pelicans came back from five down to pull off a win. The Birds climbed out of a 6-1 hole to top the Frederick Keys 7-6.

Pelicans come back to salvage finale vs. Indians
The Pelicans made sure there would be no clean sweep at BB&T Coastal Field. The Birds salvaged the finale of their three game set with Kinston by scoring six consecutive runs, to win 6-5.

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans surrendered a season high 13 runs as they lost 13-2 in game two of their series with Kinston. The Birds allowed 7 runs in the seventh inning, a season high record for runs allowed in an inning.

Florence adds four more to its roster
FLORENCE — The Florence RedWolves announced the signing of four more players for their roster. Sophomore Herman Petzold, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound infielder from Notre Dame, junior pitcher Bruce Cameron, 6-0, 175 from the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark., Junior pitcher Andre Benjamin, 6-3 225 from Grand Valley State and sophomore Andrew Guerra, a 6-0, 175 infielder/outfielder from Saint Louis University, will join the team.

Phantom serves double duty with team, Air Force
By day, Airman First Class NIck Freet is a network infrastructure technician at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter. His job there is to maintain network systems that run an entire unit. By night, Freet is the starting middle linebacker for the Phantoms. His job here is to bust up plays and tear down opposing offensive units.
