FLORENCE — Down seven runs in the fourth inning, the Florence RedWolves made a spirited comeback. Unfortunately, it fell just short. Trailing 10-5 in the bottom of the ninth, Florence plated three runs but fell 10-8 to Wilmington at Legion Field.

The brooms and the bats were out as the Pelicans posted seven runs in the first three innings on the way to an 8-3 win over the Warthogs

Weather has been a mortal enemy to the Florence RedWolves recently.
After having two games postponed due to inclement weather last week, the team has been forced to deal with another one. Florence’s meeting with Columbia Friday night was postponed due to rain.

Nick Fellman dramatically locked down first place and a 5-4 win for the Pelicans over the Warthogs. The vicotry gave Myrtle Beach 15 wins for the second half season.

RedWolves fall to Gastonia in 10 innings

Chad Dawkins’ RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted Gastonia to a 4-3 win over Florence Thursday night.
Tommy Roebuck (2-2) earned the win for the Grizzlies.

Seven RedWolves make CPL All-Star teams

On Tuesday, Florence RedWolves coach Wes Davis was named coach of the American All-Stars in the Coastal Plain League All-Star game.
Two days later, he found out who would be joining him in Asheboro, N.C. Seven RedWolves were selected to play in next Tuesday’s contest, six to the American team.

Record-setting home runs pace Pelicans

The Pelicans smashed the franchise record for team home runs, blasting three in an 8-6 victory over the Frederick Keys on Tuesday night.  The Birds have hit 108, besting the previous record of 105.

In his first season as coach of the Florence RedWolves, Wes Davis has infused an aggresive style of play that has put opponents on their heels and garnered adoration from the fans at Legion Field.

Pelicans drop double-dip to Keys

The Pelicans could not find the key to victory in either game against Frederick on Monday - the Keys swept Myrtle Beach in a double header, winning Game 1 10-8, and taking Game 2 7-2.

RedWolves rally past Fayetteville

FLORENCE — Logan Munson’s first start on the mound for Florence on Monday night didn’t go the way he would have liked. But by the time the sixth inning was finished — two hours and 35 minutes after first pitch — Munson’s struggles were long forgotten.

Pelicans have slight edge over Kinston in division

Myrtle Beach leads Kinston by percentage points in the Southern Division of the Carolina League. That could change as they travel to Frederick this week, who currently is dead last in the Northern Division.

Gorkys goes hitless in Futures Game

Pelican Gorkys Hernandez had been stuggling mightily at the plate.  His average, once in the .330s is now below .280.  Unfortunately, a trip to the Bronx did not cure what ails him.  Hernandez went 0-4 with two strikeouts as the World team beat the USA Team 3-0 in the MLB Futures game at Yankee Stadium.

Darian Durant just wants to play football, no matter where it is. So if that means playing in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, 2,032 miles away from where he grew up in Florence, Durant is willing to do it.

Pelicans washed away

Too much rain all over the Grand Strand washed away game two of the Pelicans series with the Avalanche. The game will be made up as a doubleheader comprised of two seven-inning ballgames on Friday night at 6:05 PM.

Throughout the 2008 season, the Florence RedWolves have lived and died by the strength of their pitching. It’s been a good plan so far. The RedWolves have jumped off to a Coastal Plain League-best 23-10 start due largely to their pitching staff.

Flowers’s slam leads Pelicans over Avs

Tyler Flowers hit a lead-changing grand slam in the bottom of the 8th inning, and the Pelicans prevailed over Salem, 7-5 at BB&T Coastal Field on Wednesday night. The Pelicans have won all five series openers against the Salem this season.

The Florence Redwolves used a six-run third inning to defeat Wilmington 8-3 on Tuesday. It was the RedWolves second straight win and third in their last four games.

Smetana named to SC All-Star game

Former West Florence and current Francis Marion player Austin Smetana has been chosen to play in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League All Star game July 12 at Wofford College.
