RedWolves blanked
Sam Heeps tossed a complete-game shutout and got plenty of support from his offense as Martinsville blanked Florence 13-0 on Saturday in Coastal Plain League action.
Bats come alive for RedWolves against Wilmington
A night after managing just one run in a doubleheader sweep, the Florence Redwolves’ bats came alive. Florence pounded out 15 hits and overcame a sloppy defensive performance to defeat Wilmington 9-6 on Friday.

Columbia sweeps Florence
Will Casey pitched a complete-game shutout as Columbia defeated Florence , 2-0, in the first game of a doubleheader Thursday.
Glavine will pitch Monday for Pelicans
The most decorated and accomplished player ever to suit up for the Pelicans will pitch Monday. Future Hall of Fame left-hander Tom Glavine will make a rehabilitation start for the Pelicans as they host the Kinston Indians at BB&T Coastal Field.
Pelicans can’t finish game
With the Lynchburg Hillcats leading 6-3 in the bottom of the third inning, the skies emptied and the lightning began to strike at BB&T Coastal Field. The heavy rain and lightning continued for well over an hour as the decision was made to postpone the game.

RedWolves sweep doubleheader with Wilson
RedWolves take two from Wilson, move within two games of South Division lead. Led by the pitching of Logan Munson, Florence took a 7-1 win in the opener. Jamie Walczak’s game-winning, two-run homer in the sixth inning of game two gave the RedWolves a sweep with a 4-3 victory.

A five-run fourth inning doomed the Pelicans as they fall to the Indians 7-2 in Kinston on Tuesday night.
Cooksey continues climb in umpiring ranks
Jason Cooksey has come a long way from umpiring Dixie Youth games at McLeod Park. Tonight, he will be in Mobile, Ala., working his first game as a Double-A umpire in the Southern League as he continues on a path that he hopes will end in the major leagues.

Ryne Reynoso gave the Pelicans a quality start, and they increased their lead to 3 1/2 games in the division with a 4-0 triumph over Kinston on Monday night
RedWolves fall at Wilmington
In his first start of the season, Bruce Cameron worked six solid innings for the Florence RedWolves against the Wilmington Sharks on Monday night. The Sharks, though, pushed across a run in the eighth for a 2-1 win.
Phantoms rolling in awards
After winning the American Indoor Football Association championship on Friday night, the Florence Phantoms have had nine players named to the league’s all-star game. Quarterback Omar Jacobs has been named league MVP and Eastern Conference player of the year.
Two home runs push Pelicans past Warthogs

Kent Altman was too tough for Fayetteville.
The Redwolves pitcher struck out eight and tossed a complete game in the 3-0 win over the SwampDogs in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday.
Rain continues to be problem for RedWolves
Mother nature has been very unkind to the teams of the Coastal Plain League this season.
Rainout after rainout has made scheduling games painful across the league. On Wednesday, five of the league’s six games were rained out.

Lyles notches first professional win
Hartsville native Jordan Lyles got his first win as a professional on Sunday, July 20, as his Greeneville Astros defeated Princeton 3-1, according to a release from the team. Lyles gave up five hits and struck out seven in five innings of work.

Phantoms try to bring Florence a championship
On Thursday, Florence coach Tavares Bowens and Wyoming coach Dan Maciejczak stood side by side along the sidelines at an empty Florence Civic Center.
Tonight, the pair will be on opposite sidelines directing their teams as the Phantoms and Cavalry butt heads for the AIFA championship.
Bowens, King and Pogi look to win back-to-back AIFL titles
Last year at the Florence Civic Center, the Lakeland Thunderbolts captured the first American Indoor Football Association championship 54-49 behind four touchdowns passes from Aso Pogi.
RedWolves washed out
Wednesday’s game between the Florence RedWolves and Wilson Tobs was postponed because of rain. No makeup date has been announced at this time.

Pelicans clobber Keys, 10-0
The Pelicans took a 4-0 lead after the first and never looked back, clobbering the Keys 10-0 in their biggest shutout of the season. With the victory, the Pelicans are the first Carolina League team to 20 wins in the second half of the year.

Kleinknecht wins CPL home run derby
The fans that came to McCrary Park on Monday night for the 2008 CPL All-Star Home Run Derby weren’t disappointed. Sixteen sluggers hit 58 homers throughout the night. In the end Florence’s Barrett Kleinknecht of the American team outslugged Petersburg’s Greyson Schram of the National team.
