Barrett Kleinknecht hit a game-winning RBI single in the top of the 11th inning, then pitched a scorless bottom half to pick up the save as the Florence RedWolves improved to 3-0 with a 5-4 win over the Fayetteville SwampDogs on Friday.

Barrett Kleinknecht knows a fat pitch when he sees one. On the first pitch of the sixth inning, Kleinknecht got a changeup in the heart of the plate from Tyler McBride and lined it over the wall in left to break a 2-2 tie and send the Florence RedWolves to a 5-2 Coastal Plain League win.

Pelicans clinch first series win of the year

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans offense stepped on the gas early, and Pelicans starter Richard Sullivan needed no more as he spun a three-hit, complete game shutout in a 6-0 win over the Winston-Salem Dash in front of 3,089 fans Wednesday at BB&T Coastal Field.

For the second consecutive night, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans waited until the late innings to make their offensive move against the Wilmington Blue Rocks, and for the second consecutive night, the Birds came up just short.

Pelicans win second straight with 4-1 victory over Dash

Steady pitching and timely hitting were key for the Pelicans’ second straight win Monday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park in Winston-Salem, NC.  Pelican starter Edgar Osuna (3-3) allowed only three hits and just one run over his seven innings to claim his third win of the season.

For the first time this season, the Florence Phantoms have lost two straight games.

Having not scored a run in their last two games at home, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans broke out early and scored methodically to put away a 6-2 victory over the Potomac Nationals in front of 3,762 Saturday night at BB&T Coastal Field.

Pelicans bats stifled again

Tom Milone tossed eight shutout innings, Michael Burgess homered and scored three runs, and the Potomac Nationals beat the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 4-0 in front of 3,885 in the series opener of three Friday night at BB&T Coastal Field.

Phantoms’ defense getting healthy

The Florence Phantoms’ defense will be getting a big boost tonight. Defensive end Leonard “Pac Man” Moore and nose tackle Corey Groover, two of the team’s top defensive players, will make their return against Carolina in a game at the Florence Civic Center.

Lyles fans nine in loss

Former Hartsville standout Jordan Lyles had a season-high nine strikeouts over five innings in a 3-1 loss to the Charleston RiverDogs on Wednesday. Lyles, a member of the Lexington Legends, had previously struck out eight in two different games this season, including his last start.

Pelicans swept in doubleheader

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans got great pitching in game one against the Frederick Keys but fell 1-0, then they got early offense in game two but eventually fell 5-4.

Looking to avenge their 6-5 loss in the first game of a Thursday doubleheader with the Lynchburg Hillcats, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans instead turned in a much similar result in a 5-4 loss in game two at Lynchburg City Stadium.

For his second straight time on the mound, Myrtle Beach Pelicans left-hander Jeff Locke faced the Salem Red Sox, and for the second straight time, the Red Sox just couldn’t quite figure him out.

Reading holds off Phantoms

The Reading Express got a little payback against the Florence Phantoms. The Express, who lost to the Phantoms in last year’s conference finals, got their revenge with a 66-55 win over Florence on Friday night at the Florence Civic center. The loss snapped Florence’s six-game winning streak.

McCann still has eye issue after Myrtle Beach rehab stint

Atlanta Brave catcher Brian McCann’s trip back to Myrtle Beach was not a success.  McCann is on the disabled list because of discomfort in his left eye.  He spent two games playing for the Pelicans and trying to figure it out, but he still leaves the Beach with questions.

Early Hillcats offense downs Pelicans

For five straight games, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans had seemingly put an early season inability to score before their opposition behind them. They regressed Tuesday night in a big way, surrendering three runs in the first inning and four in the second en route to an 8-2 loss to the Lynchburg Hillcats.

‘Cats comeback bests Pelicans

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans made a living in their recent road trip to visit the Salem Red Sox by getting just enough offense to back up solid pitching efforts.  In Monday night’s series opener of a three-game set with the Lynchburg Hillcats, the Pelicans fell victim to those same traits in a 4-3 loss.
