COLUMBIA — West Florence’s Bobby Browning came up short in his bid for a second straight state championship.

Chapin’s Kyle Koch defeated Browning 7-6, 6-4 in the boys Class 3-4A individual championship on Saturday. It was a rematch of last year’s final in which Browning won.

Browning, who will be attending Furman next year, closes out his career with a 112-10 record and became the first tennis player in school history to make all-state four years in a row.

Wilson’s Timothy Jiang also made the all-state team by winning the championship in the consolation bracket. Jiang lost his first match but won four straight including the consolation championship over
Berkeley’s Zac Dye, 6-1, 6-3.

Darlington’s Alex Howle won one match in the tourney, while West’s Matthew Canelon lost both of his matches.
