West’s Browning wins individual state title

COLUMBIA — A week after winning their second straight state championship, the West Florence tennis team completed its own version of the high school triple crown.
Junior Bobby Browning won all three of his matches Saturday to earn the Class 3A/4A individual state championship.
Senior Pruitt Williams also won both of his matches to take the consolation bracket title.

A familar team stood on the highest step of the podium Saturday after the Class A girls state track meet at Spring Valley High School. Johnsonville’s girls won their 11th state title in a meet that came down to the day’s final race, the 4x400-meter relay.

Mullins Auctioneer is State Player of the Year

Mullins Auctioneer Senior forward Andrew “Chuck” Crawford has enjoyed a remarkable season. He led his team in scoring and rebounding, helping them to earn a “pristine” 21-0 regular season record that resulted in a region 7AA championship. In recognition of his efforts, Crawford was named Class 2A State Player of the Year.

Mullins advances past Dillon in Double Overtime

Like Ali versus Frazier, the trilogy, matching up two fierce and evenly matched rivals will be one of the biggest high school basketball games this season. The Mullins Auctioneers and Dillon Wildcats went to war in this past Friday’s semi-final round of the Carolina Classic. Coach Mark Gerald and the Aucs maintained their advantage through two overtime periods and won by a score of 95-88, advancing to Saturday’s championship game against Timmonsville.
